Romania's energy output edged up by an annual 0.7% in 2014, while imports increased 6.1%, the statistics office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Romania's energy production totalled 21.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) last year, while imports reached 10.25 million TOE, INS said in a statement.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 64 billion KWh in 2014, up 7.8% on the year.
The Romanian thermal power plants' production fell by 1.6% to some 26.6 billion KWh last year. The hydroelectric power stations' output jumped 25.4% to 19 billion KWh. The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant edged up 0.5% to some 11.7 billion KWh and the output of wind farms was 4.7 billion KWh, up by 34.4 million KWh from a year earlier. Solar plants produced 1.3 billion KWh, up by 875 million KWh compared to 2013.
Final electricity consumption fell by an annual 1.9% to 49.25 billion KWh.
Romania's electricity exports rose by 5.7 billion KWh to 8.2 billion KWh in the period under review, INS said.
