As Public Perception Changes Solar Energy Poised For Explosive Growth
In his State of The Union Speech, President Barack Obama noted that Americans are flipping the switch on as much new solar power every three weeks today as they did in all of 2008. There are good and growing reasons for that explosive growth.
And all indications are that solar adoption in the United States will only continue to accelerate in the coming years. The reason: solar technology is advancing rapidly. It's becoming more and more affordable and more and more popular.
Just as cell phones started as cumbersome bricks that cost a fortune and made a statement about the people who used them, rooftop solar panels started out as a weird and expensive technology that we weren't sure would catch on.
Today, Bolivian women pull flip phones from the pockets of their traditional garb and American six-year-olds play Candy Crush on their parents' iPhones without anyone batting an eye.

Business Leaders Labor Utilities Farmers And Conservationists Hail Clean Energy Jobs Act Bill
MADISON - Prominent business leaders, labor representatives, farmers, health advocates, faith leaders, energy providers, and environmentalists were among residents from across the state who gathered at a public hearing held in the State Capitol today to ask their elected leaders to support and strengthen the Clean Energy Jobs Act.
"The diversity of support for this legislation is overwhelming," said Ryan Schryver, Clean Energy Advocate at Clean Wisconsin, the state's largest environmental advocacy organization. "People from all walks of life gathered today to ask legislators to create jobs, clean our environment, protect our health, and support energy independence by passing this bill."
The Clean Energy Jobs Act holds the potential to be an economic boon for Wisconsin, creating demand for energy efficiency projects, putting residents to work harvesting wind and solar power, and creating markets for farmers to grow and sell biofuels.
According to an analysis performed by the Office of Energy Independence, the current version of the bill will create over 15,000 jobs for Wisconsinites in the construction and manufacturing industries alone. Strengthening the bill could lead to even greater job creation.
"We cannot afford to continue draining our economy by exporting billions on expensive, dirty fossil fuels," said Schryver. "Residents gathered today to say 'enough is enough' and demand that we create jobs and start investing in our own state by producing clean energy right here at home."
"The Coalition for Clean Energy which includes Clean Wisconsin also made several suggested improvements to the Clean Energy Jobs Act bill:"
+ Restore and protect the integrity of the Renewable Energy Standard (RES) (Renewable Portfolio Standard - RPS - in the current draft)....
+ Strengthening the language to ensure that Wisconsin does meet the 2 percent energyefficiency goal by REQUIRING the Public Service Commission to direct efficiency investments necessary to reach that 2 percent goal....
+ Increase the percentage of renewable energy that must be sited in Wisconsin to at least half of renewable energy generation required under the bill (i.e. 12.5% in 2025)....
+ Strengthen the Advanced Renewable Tariff (ART) language by making it apply statewide
and by including a statewide minimum MW cap and a minimum project size cap....
Read all of the recommendations.
The coalition also includes Wisconsin Council of Churches, Citizens Utility Board, Wisconsin Community Action Program (WisCAP), Environmental Law Environment Wisconsin, Midwest Environmental Advocates, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Sierra Club - John Muir Chapter, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters.

Masdar Targets Renewable Energy Projects In Saudi Arabia And Oman
VIA http://www.thenational.ae/
By: LeAnne Graves
Abu Dhabi's Masdar is eyeing wind and solar energy projects in Oman and Saudi Arabia as the renewables sector attracts more investment throughout the region."Oman is stepping forward and we're expecting Saudi Arabia to offer tenders this year," said Bader Al Lamki, the director of Masdar Clean Energy."There is momentum building up in the region [for clean energy projects]."Masdar entered Oman's wind market in October, signing a deal to build a 50 megawatts wind farm in the Dhofar region. The US125 million project is the group's first large-scale wind venture in the GCC, with construction set to start by the end of this year. Masdar estimates that it can generate enough clean electricity to power 16,000 homes. The last time a Masdar project came online, or fed electricity into the power grid, was in 2013.Mr Lamki said that 2014 was more about making new investments, but 2015 was going to be a combination of bringing projects online or closer to completion while establishing new ventures.Masdar expects the Tafila wind farm in Jordan to complete after the summer. The 117MW project costs an estimated 290m and will increase the country's total power capacity by 3 per cent."Wind and solar is our bread and butter," he said. The Shams 1 concentrated solar power (CSP) project came online in 2013.It has the capacity to feed 100MW of electricity into the national grid.Last year marked a first for Masdar as the company acquired a stake in its first offshore wind project. The 402MW Dudgeon wind project in the UK is expected to be completed by the end of 2017."As the only Opec nation supplying both traditional and renewable energyto international markets, the UAE is committed to accelerating the use of wind energy as an effective means of balancing the global energy mix as we move toward a sustainable, low carbon future," said Sultan Al Jaber, the chairman of Masdar.lgraves@thenational.ae

Fun Facts Floridas Renewable Portfolio Status
The Sunshine State is a perfect place to implement an RPS, mostly due to the fact that we receive more sunshine than nearly every state in the US (hence the name "Sunshine State"). So where do we add up in the RPS race? Well, we've got A LOT of work to do
According to NRDC.org, "Florida is in the minority of states that have yet to pass a Renewable Portfolio Standard to encourage clean energy growth." This is insane! How is it that we're the perfect state to have residential and commercial solar, yet we're one of the only states with no RPS?
Here area few facts that help make the case for an effective RPS here in the Sunshine State:
1.) Florida has some of the highest rates of home electric prices in the country, due in part to the amount of air conditioning we consume.
2.) There are over 47,500 farms in Florida, meaning we could become a power-player in the biofuel market.
3.) Florida has 85% of the maximum solar energy potential of any place in the country, at 7.2 kilowatt-hours per day.
4.) Every year, Florida livestock emit 19,000 tons of methane that could be used to generate clean energy.
In summary, Florida's renewable portfolio standard is lacking. We at CETC are strategically placed in the capital city, and will continue to do our best to push for an RPS that makes sense for our state. Stop by our office any time to learn what we're doing to make renewable energy more affordable for your home or business.
